CCFB takes gold at annual NYFB meeting

ALBANY – The Chenango County Farm Bureau (CCFB) took home a number of awards from the New York Farm Bureau (NYFB) annual meeting beginning on Dec. 6, last week, including the Distinguished President's Award, the coveted Gold Key Award, and eight separate Silver Keys.
Three CCFB delegates made the trip to Albany for the annual meeting including President Bradd Vickers, Vice President Keith Vanalthuis, and Harvey Fletcher, as well as alternates Fred Baker, Judy Baker, Judy Fletcher, Rainy Collins-Vickers, Dr. David Leahy DVM, Joe Cornell, Craig Jochum, and Kerry Vanalthuis. The members represented the CCFB in setting the NYFB policy for 2017 based on policies passed at the CCFB's annual meeting on Oct. 25.
Among the other awards won by the CCFB this year were: Membership, Agriculture Education and Promotion, County Financial Management, Information and Public Relations, Leadership Development, Local Policy Development and Implementation, State and National Policy Development and Implementation, and Young Farmers and Ranchers.
Voting delegates at the NYFB meeting also elected a new president to their organization: David Fisher, a dairy farmer from St. Lawrence County, will assume the role as NYFB president. Fisher and his family have operated Mapleview Dairy in Madrid, NY, for four generations. He has served on the NYFB Board of Directors for the past five years and was previously president of St. Lawrence County Farm Bureau. He is a graduate of Cornell University earning a degree in Animal Science, and also a graduate of the LEAD NY program.
The CCFB now looks ahead to the annual American Farm Bureau Convention taking place on Jan. 6 – 11, 2017, in Phoenix, Ariz.
