Two in a row for the Norwich girls basketball team

NORWICH – Up 10-points at 23-13 over Chenango Valley, the Norwich varsity girls basketball team turned in a dominating third period to truly swing the tide in the divisional home opener.

The 23-point third period that the lady Tornado produced lifted the girls to their second consecutive win on the 2016-2017 season, as they truly dominated – despite a sloppy, unorganized look – in the first half – taking the win on Dec. 9, at 59-38.

“A bit of a sloppy game. Thankfully for us, we made them look more sloppy than they made us,” said Norwich head coach Josh Bennett.

The play by Norwich to open up the game featured missed layups, sloppy passes, and turnovers – luckily for Norwich, Chenango Valley would only be able to capitalize on a minor amount of the miscues as they could only score six and seven points in the first and second period, respectively.

Leading 23-13, Norwich doubled their production in the third period, before tacking on 13 additional points to close out the win at home. Leading the late charge for the Warriors was Brittney Kropp of CV who managed to finish the game with 15 points.

However, Norwich would not allow the fourth quarter comeback – 17 points scored in the fourth by Chenango Valley – as an improved Norwich squad help on for the 21 point win. Leading the charge and the scoring for the Tornado was senior's Makenzie Maynard and Meghan Komendarek, who each reached double digits on the night – scoring 16 and 18 points respectively.
