NORWICH – A slow start from state ranked Norwich left them trailing 30-22 to Oneonta this past Friday evening, however, the Tornado helped validate their rankings thus far in the season when they dropped 32 second-half points to answer the call and walk away victorious on the night at 54-48.
Trailing at the half by an eight point margin, Norwich's early game lack of production played a major part – scoring just eight points to open up the game.
However, a halftime regrouping allowed the Tornado to emerge from the locker room to swat the Yellowjackets with a 21 point third period, something Oneonta simply could not handle – grabbing a game low of a mere five points in the third.
This key third period allowed Norwich to slip by for the home win on Dec. 16, by one of their closest margins of the season just six points.
In the win, Norwich's offense – although struggling early – was able to produce three athletes in double digit scoring on the night, with a fourth trailing with nine points scored. Leading the charge for Norwich was Dashawn King with 15 points, followed by Tre Bonham with 14 points, Chris Jeffrey with an even 10 and JT Vinal nearly joining the trio, as he took home nine.
On the Oneonta side, it was all Tanner Beang and Graham Wooden who both tied in scoring with 11 a piece. Serving Oneonta well was the long ball as they netted a combined nine of 25 three point shots – compared to Norwich who struggled from beyond the arch grabbing only three of 11.
Norwich (7-0 overall) will next play a game on Thursday, Dec. 22, when they play host to Vernon-Veron-Sherrill at 7:45 p.m.
