Unblemished Norwich claims road win over Yellowjackets
ONEONTA – Down 20-18, the varsity girls' basketball team of Norwich battled through the tough matchup this past Friday with Oneonta, emerging the victors of the game by a score of 50-42.
With this win on the road over rival Oneonta on Dec. 16, the Norwich girls now have made it three in a row as they sit a perfect 3-0 on the season thus far.
The second half push that led Norwich past Oneonta saw both teams explode out of the halftime break with scores of 15 from Oneonta, and 14 from Norwich. The key display and push for the win came late in the game, when Norwich was able to hold Oneonta to just seven points in the fourth – a period low for the Yellowjackets.
This defensive play from the lady Tornado, allowed the Norwich offense to maneuver their way into scoring opportunities, where they subsequently dropped a period high 18 points on Oneonta.
The 18 point fourth period run that Norwich orchestrated came partly off of the stellar play from senior Makenzie Maynard. Maynard enjoyed seven fourth period points, en route to her team leading 17 points scored in the game.
Onoenta would enjoy some success – having three individuals reach double digit scoring – however, Norwich's defense was able to limit the production of players as only five Yellowjackets scored in the game.
Up next for Norwich (3-0 overall) they will enjoy some more time off before they get on the court for their next game at home when they host Maine-Endwell on Dec. 23, at 7:45 p.m.
