Warriors destroy Oxford with 30 point win
OXFORD – The Oxford Blackhawks boys varsity basketball team suffered their first loss on the season when the Sidney Warriors came to town, laying down a 73-43 win this past Friday.
Oxford, previously 2-0, failed to keep pace with the high-powered Warrior offense when they matched up on Dec. 16, to which Sidney nearly scored as many points in the second half that Oxford managed in the entire duration of the game.
Sidney led the Blackhawks on their home court by a score of 35-24, a reasonable margin. However, the halftime break produced a revitalized Warrior offense which combined for 25 third period points – compared to Oxford who would come out flat to only snag eight in the third.
The deadly trio for the Warriors – Trevor Dutton, Alex Hoskins, and Kyle Smith – would do most of their damage in the first half, as they would score 14, 14 and 15 points respectively to lead Sidney.
The later periods of play, Sidney would lean more heavily on their other six players to close out the game.
Despite the loss for Oxford in front of their home crowd, it was Jason Davis who had a season high in scoring when he led the Blackhawks on the offensive end with 23 points scored, while also going 7-13 from the free throw line.
However, Davis was just one of a total of fix players to reach the basket on the night for Oxford, as the remaining four players combined just 20 points, while going 2-6 from the charity stripe.
Oxford (2-1 overall) will next play on Thursday, Dec. 22, when they travel south to take on Greene at 7:15 p.m.
