Offense abundant in lady Marauders win at home
SHERBURNE – The girls of the Sherburne-Earlville varsity basketball team have now strung together a winning record of 4-2 following their most recent win over Adirondack at 52-32.
The 20 point win for S-E on Dec. 19, saw the lady Marauders rally around the halftime break – posting scores of 17 points to close the first half and 19 points to open the second half.
This offensive explosion from S-E simply set Adirondack back on their heels, as they failed to reach double digit scoring until the fourth period.
Standouts for S-E were read right down the roster essentially – as each and every S-E athlete scored in the game. Leading scorers – Lexi Elderkin, 14 points; Miranda Wright, 13 points; and eighth grader Tessa Cole, 11 points – hammered the win home for the Marauders.
Kaitlyn Furner, although only netting 5 points in the game, secured a team high seven rebounds for her defensive efforts. While Elderkin tacked on four steals to go with her team leading scoring.
For Adirondack, who trailed S-E 28-13 at the half, it was a general disbursement of points for the most part. Although nearly everyone on the Adirondack side was involved in the scoring it was Kara Philbrick who led the team with 10 points.
Next up for Sherburne-Earlville (4-2 overall) they will host Waterville on Friday, Dec. 23, at 7:30 p.m.
