B-G and Norwich dominate: Chenango County produces 10 semifinalists

WINDSOR – Following the completion of the first day of the 60th annual Windsor Christmas Tournament, the Bears of Bainbridge-Guilford-Harpursville-Afton have taken the reigns, leading the pack with 68 team points and six wrestlers in the semifinals. Norwich is trailing closely behind BGAH, as they come to rest in third place with 54 points and four wrestlers in the semifinals.
Wrestling is set to begin at 9 a.m. on Dec. 29, with the placing rounds beginning at 4 p.m. later on in the day.
99 pounds: At the weight Norwich's Dante Geislinger has pulled off the upsets to reach the semifinals. The eighth grader was ranked 10th in the weight but after defeating Oxford's Cooper Rice by a pin at :54 and winning a decision in the quarterfinals at 64 – Geislinger has set up a the number three seed, Drake Dillie of Elmira.
106 pounds: Brody Oleksak of BGAH, the number one seed at the weight class has glided his way into the semifinals by way of two pins. Oleksak will face off against number four seed Mike McDaniels of Windsor. Norwich's Mikey Squires, a number three seed at the weight was notably upset with a 4-2 loss to Chase Daudelin of Corning.
113 pounds: No local semifinalists in the weight after Norwich's second seeded Eli Rodriguez fell in the quarterfinals to Devin Todd of Deposit-Hancock by pin at 3:55.
120 pounds: No local semifinalists after Norwich's Nick Glanville fell victim to second seeded Austin Lamb of Tioga by a pin at just 1:26.
126 pounds: No local semifinalists after a multitude of unranked Chenango County wrestlers suffered losses within the first two rounds of the tournament.
132 pounds: Seventh ranked Cody Ferrara of BGAH lost his first round match against DJ Knolles of Towanda by a score of 10-3, sending Ferrara to the wrestle-backs. There is no local semifinalists in the weight.
138 pounds: Second seeded Ben Bivar of BGAH has advanced to the semifinals following two pins. Bivar will face off against third seeded Padraig Lupole of Susquehanna Valley – with the hopes of advancing to the finals where Vestal's Derek Osman is sure to be waiting.
145 pounds: The weight will feature two of Section IV and Chenango County's top wrestlers in a semifinals match – as Norwich's Ty Rifanburg has advanced to the semifinals following a 9-0 win in the quarterfinals to face off against BGAH's Shane Hoover, who has pinned his way thus far through the tournament.
152 pounds: Norwich's Cole Rifanburg has advanced to the semifinals from the number three ranked spot, to face second seeded Griffen Stephenson. Rifanburg earned an 11-0 win in the first round before grabbing a win by pin in the quarterfinals. Rifanburg will be looking to lock up a trip to the finals where Shvunte Searcy of Marathon may await for a Clyde Cole finals rematch.
160 pounds: Madison Hoover of BGAH has pinned his way into the semifinals from the second seeded position. Hoover will be facing off against third seeded Hunter Kennedy of Panther Valley in the semifinals.
170 pounds: BGAH's Austin Carr dealt a big blow to Norwich when he advanced to the semifinals of the tournament following a win over Norwich's Jake Franklin by a score of 14-9. Carr, a third seed, will be taking on second seeded Chris Eames of Horseheads.
182 pounds: Fourth seeded Brennan Slater has found himself in the semifinals after a two back-to-back pins in the tournament. Slater will now face off against top-seeded Seth Patterson of Honeoye Falls Lima.
195 pounds: BGAH's Mitch Weist earned a decisive victory over Oxford's by pin at 4:40. Weist, a fifth seed, will now face off against top-seeded Sean Degroat of Vestal for a chance at a finals berth.
220 pounds: No local semifinalists after Norwich's Tyler Rice lost to top-seeded Jordan Favela of Vestal. Rice, an eighth grader, did earn a close 2-0 victory in the first round.
285 pounds: No semifinalists match on the local level, as the lone county athlete, BGAH's Nick Decker lost in the opening round to fourth seeded Dylan Ashwood of Indian River by fall at just :57 seconds.
