Accused purse snatcher arrested and arraigned

NORWICH – A man already incarceration on a different charge was arrested Tuesday and is the alleged perpetrator of a purse snatching that took place this past November.

Neil R. Lafever, 33, of Silver Street in Norwich, was arrested Tuesday, January 3, 2017 by members of the Norwich Police Department.

Lafever was arrested following the investigation into a robbery that occurred on Nov. 8, 2016. At approximately 6:01 p.m. that evening, the department received a call from a victim who reported that her purse had been stolen from her while she was walking in the parking lot of a local store.

The victim then reported that she was walking through the parking lot when a subject went past her on a bicycle. While riding past the victim, the subject was said to have forcefully grabbed the victim’s purse from her hand, and that the subject fled the parking lot on the bicycle.

Lafever was charged with robbery in the second degree, a class C felony; and grand larceny in the fourth degree, a class E felony.

The robbery in the second degree chafe alleges that Lafever forcibly stole property and in the course of the commission of the crime of immediate flight therefrom, he coughed a physical injury to a person who was not a participant in the crime. In this incident, the an injury to her hand when Lafever forcefully seized the purse from her grasp.
