New York State high school football 2016 All-State selections

NEW YORK STATE– Chenango County featured 18 different athletes from each of the seven Chenango County based schools. This list has been mulled over and worked on by the New York Sportswriters Association since the completion of the 2016 season.
• Norwich, the lone Section IV Class B school in Chenango County saw two of their athletes make the All-State list. Cole Rifanburg, a Norwich senior made third team defense as a defensive back; while senior Carter Hubbard was named as an honorable mention as an offensive lineman. Norwich finished 5-4 overall on the season, missing the playoffs.
• Sherburne-Earlville, the lone Section III Class C team in Chenango County managed to have three of their athletes be named to the All-State list. Jessey Lynch a S-E junior, was named to the Class C Third Team Defense as a linebacker after posting season stats of 40 tackles, six tackles for loss, one sack, six deflected passes, one forced fumble, three fumble recoveries, and one safety; while Matt Hull and Sam Tuttle were named as an honorable mention for the All-State team as a running back and offensive lineman, respectively. Hull finished the season with 88 carries for 672 rushing yards and 10 Touchdowns, eight receptions for 140 receiving yards and one touchdown. S-E finished the season going 4-4 overall.
• Greene tops the list of county schools with players who were named to a team – excluding honorable mention – as they also had three athletes named to the list for 2016. Senior running back Luke Erickson was named to the Section IV Class D First Team Offense for season stats of 811 yards rushing for 11 touchdowns in 6.5 games. Erickson's lineman, senior Breven Gilmore was named to the Section IV Class D Second Team Offense as an offensive lineman; while Mitchell Walters was named to the Third Team Offense as a place kicker. Greene finished 6-3 overall on the season, losing to Harpursville-Afton in the first round of the playoffs.
• Harpursville-Afton joins Greene on the list as Section IV Class D team, but the Hornets impressively have four players mentioned on this years list. Alongside Erickson on the First Team All-State Offense is Harpursville-Afton's junior running back, Josh Wilson, who is listed as all-purpose. Wilson had 1055 yards rushing, 13 Touchdowns – 36 Tackles, 3 Interceptions on the season. Wilson is joined on the list by his teammate and fellow running back, senior Madison Hoover. Hoover was named to the Section IV Class D Second Team Offense – while having stats of 1004 yards rushing, 11 Touchdowns – 52 Tackles, 2 Sacks, 2 Interceptions. Following the two Hornet running backs, are a pair of senior offensive lineman Noah Barriger and Joey Kiehle – both were named as honorable mentions for Class D. Harpursville-Afton finished the season going 7-2 overall and losing in the second round of the playoffs.
• Oxford, featured three athletes on this year's All-State list for Class D. Topping the charts was their sophomore running back, Xavier Cruz. Cruz rushed for 1,506 yards off of just 174 carries for 14 touchdowns – earning him a spot on the Section IV Class D Third Team Offense. Following Cruz is junior Jake Ingraham and senior Jon Heggie – both were named as honorable mentions for line and defensive back, respectively. Heggie finished the season having 74 tackles, five interceptions, and six forced fumbles. Oxford finished with a 5-4 record overall, missing the playoffs.
• Unadilla Valley saw two of their athletes be named to the honorable mention list for All-State 2016 players for Class D. Junior running back, Payton Stirone led the Storm on offense for the season racking up 1,379 yards and 17 touchdowns. Stirone was joined on the honorable mentions list by one of his lineman, senior Matt Turner. UV finished the season with a 1-7 overall record.
• Bainbridge-Guilford managed to earn just one spot on this year's All-State list for Class D. Earning the lone spot for the Bobcats was senior running back Austin Carr who racked up stats of 937 rushing yards on 173 carries for 15 rushing touchdowns, and 688 passing yards with six touchdowns. Bainbridge-Guilford finished with a 4-5 record overall.
