Fourth period collapse hands Norwich another loss

JOHNSON CITY – The Norwich Purple Tornado varsity boys basketball team was looking for a bounce-back game after falling to the previously winless Tigers of Union-Endicott in their last matchup – what they did instead was dig themselves deeper into a hole on the season with their third loss to the Wildcats by a score of 70-61.
Norwich impressively led Johnson City on the scoreboard for much of the tight game played on Jan. 4, – taking a slight 31-28 lead at the half before outscoring JC by one in the third to climb to a 49-45 lead heading into the final minutes of play.
That is when, the fourth period rolled around and everything seemed to collapse around them, as Johnson City exploded for 25 fourth period points, to not only take the lead, but surpass Norwich burying them on the scoreboard – as Norwich could not keep pace, only scoring 12 points to close out the game.
A massive issue which has played a large part in the Tornado's recent losses is the turnover margin, Norwich committed 17 turnovers to Johnson City's just six, this factored into the mix is sure to lead to blown fourth period games. Leading Norwich in scoring, despite the loss was Dashawn King. King managed 16 points on the day but would narrowly edge out Chris Jeffrey for the team lead – as Jeffrey snagged 15 of his own.
Norwich (7-3 overall) will get little time to regroup after the back-to-back losses as they are scheduled to travel to Chenango Forks for a Friday night game on Jan. 6, at 7:15 p.m.
