Stockbridge Valley defeats the lady Vikings; Meigs on the verge of 1,000 point club

OTSELIC VALLEY – The OV Vikings battled to a admirable finish, with a fight in their gameplay until the final buzzer – although they did in fact come up the losers of their home game against Stockbridge Valley by a score of 51-31.
The win for Stockbridge Valley seemed inevitable from the start, as the visitors would lead OV the entire game which was played on Jan. 4.
The game featured a halftime score of 24-13, to which Stockbridge Valley looked to improve on the score gap when the halftime break was finished.
Despite only posting scores of five points in the third period and 13 points to close out the game, the OV defense held Stockbridge Valley somewhat in check throughout the duration of the game – allowing only two girls to hit double digit scoring on the night.
On the lady Vikings side, it was junior Amber Meigs who stood out amongst both teams. Meigs a three and half year varsity veteran posted a 23 point game to raise her total points scored in her career to 984. Meigs went 5-6 from the line while also grabbing two three-pointers to add to her total.
Meigs is expected to hit the prestigious 1,000 point mark when Otselic Valley plays their next game, which is home later on this evening Jan. 5, at 5:30 p.m.
“It (1,000 point club) obviously means a lot to me because I have been playing for so long,” said Meigs.
Despite the loss, the lady Vikings will look to rebound when they host Canastota tonight – where Amber Meigs will be on a showcase as she hopes to lead her fellow lady Vikings to a home win.
“Amber Meigs as a player sets the standard for other people to follow, she really does. She is a junior, has another full year ahead for her with like 12 games left in this season,” said Otselic Valley head coach Paul O'Connor. “But what we have to admire about Amber is she fights through adversity, she makes her own breaks and what she does is she turns a lot of heads on the court. Everybody on the court knows who number five is.”
