DVD Patrol: Best movies of 2016
We're here, Patrollers! the Toddster put together the films that we thought were the best for 2016. There will be those among you that will disagree but these were pretty good. Doctor Strange and The Accountant will be available on DVD in early 2017 for DVD. Everything else is now available on DVD now. Choose what your favorite movie for the year was. Special mentions will be told later.
Best movies of 2016-
5. The Accountant-Someone can have a code by aiding those who do wrong. That person can find something wrong with it and then you'll have to pay the price. Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) was a high functioning person with a form of autism but with the right training he was able to make it work for himself. Chris gets hired for a company that seems to be missing a lot of money that was found by another accountant named Dana Cummings (Anna Kendrick). Suddenly, she gets on some assassins' radar. Christian has to step in to help her and there are those who are shocked at what he can do. Will he be able to help her?
4. Doctor Strange- When you've been good at something that can save a lot of lives, there can be times your destiny can be changed without you knowing it. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) was a talented neurosurgeon who could save lives but had a bit of an arrogant streak. That's all about to change. Stephen gets into a car accident that costs him the use of his gift to save his patients. He researches every procedure and technique that might be able to give him back the use of his hands. He hears of a mysterious woman who a unique nature of using methods that almost seem magical. That couldn't be more true. She is called the "Ancient One" (Tilda Swinton) and she has been the Sorceress Supreme for several centuries. The more Stephen learns, he is hopeful. Now evil forces are about to strike and Stephen will have to aid his teacher to stop them. Does he have enough training to get the job done?
3. Jason Bourne- Just when you think you're out of the business you didn't like, you can get pulled back in. Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) had been living off the grid but did what he could to get by. He is contacted by Nikki Parsons (Julia Stiles) who has information about his past that he didn't have before. This could finally help him piece together his past that he lost years ago. Nicki tells Jason what he wants to know but not before the people that don't want to know about it come gunning for him and manage to kill Nicki. Now it's all out war. Jason has to journey to the US to find who wants him dead and with a new ally named Heather Lee (Alicia Vikander), he might be able to finally have some peace. Will Bourne stop them in time?
2. Suicide Squad- When being bad is usually an option, good can still be done. The US Government was looking for options to help replace the World's Greatest Hero Superman after a huge battle with the lifeform known as "Doomsday." With the aid of Batman and Wonder Woman, Superman was able to stop it but not without the cost to his own life. Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) is recruited to find a way to defend our country. She decides to use criminals that will be able to work for pardons. She gets Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), and a number of other criminals to take on the Enchantress (Cara Delavigne). Waller thinks she might be able to control her but the thing with magic is it's never predictable. Will Waller and the team be able to stop her before she takes over the World?
And the Number #1 movie for 2016 is
1. Captain America: Civil War-Even when you're the best of friends, there will be times you won't agree on something. After the Events of "Avengers: Age of Ultron," the World is a little bit scared of how superhumans operate. Steve Rogers AKA Captain America (Chris Evans) latest mission resulted in a lot of people getting hurt. The Leaders of the World decide that the Avengers needs to be run with rules in place so that no one gets hurt. Tony Stark AKA "Iron Man" (Robert Downey Jr) thinks they have no choice but to obey them. Cap thinks they need to keep running things the way they have. When an assassination attempt on a United Nations meeting happens, Cap's friend Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) AKA The Winter Soldier is blamed for it. Steve knows that Bucky has been subjected to brainwashing and isn't responsible for what he does. Tony knows Steve can't operate the way he wants to any more. Cap has to find out who is behind the bombings. Can he do it without battling his friends?
We have to give a special shoutout to a few movies before we go. 'Batman VS Superman: Dawn of Justice: The Ultimate Edition," "Deadpool," and "Star Trek: Beyond did make it to the top 10. 2017 will be a strong year for movies with a lot of sequels including some team movies that will be mentioned in a future column.
