County bowlers rank high in MAC Holiday tournament
NORWICH – The MAC Holiday tournament – held at Plaza Lanes in Norwich – featured many of the Chenango County's top bowlers, to which the Oxford boys and girls, as well as the Greene boys emerged on top.
Due to incomplete information on the tournament, reports were held off on the results following the completion of the tournament in late December.
The Oxford girls were led by Jourdan Pinney's 697 series, highlighted by a game high of 234 – which she bowled in her second game 234. The high game was bested only by Bainbridge-Guilford's Maya Cliffe who rolled a tournament best 247 for the girls side. Also contributing for The lady Blackhawks – in their first place win – was Erin Howard who bowled a 578 series capped by once again a personal high second game of 201 followed by a third game at 198.
The Oxford boys rolled their way to a second place finish led by newcomer Harry Oliver's 534 series highlighted by a high game 234.
Oxford head coach Lance Thorne said, “Harry spent most of his childhood and high school career as a basketball player, but suffered through two knee surgeries. Harry decided to try something new that would be less stressful on his knee. It's amazing how far he has come in such a short period of time, he really dedicated himself to being the best he can be as a bowler and it continues to pay off.”
A few other leaders for the Blackhawks on the boys side were Dakota Simpson, Gavin Wheatley, and Phil Smith – who each produced solid series to help Oxford take home second. Smith bowled a fantastic second game of 236 which, when all was said and done, proved to be the second highest game of the tournament.
All MAC teams including Bainbridge-Guilford, Sidney, Afton, Greene, Deposit, and Hancock were present at this tournament.
The Greene Trojans boys varsity bowling team did take first place high handicap. However, due to said incomplete statistics no other results were provided.
Top three team scores total pins ranking:
Boys: Greene 3,177, Oxford 3,158, Bainbridge-Guilford 3,105.
Girls: Oxford, Bainbridge-Guilford, Sidney (no pin count provided).
