Tornado Indoor Track out pace opponents at 607 Invitational

CORTLAND – On Saturday January 21, the Purple Tornado boys and girls recorded some top finishes as they competed at the 607 Invitational at SUNY Cortland.
To start the day, Zack Race took first place in the 55 meter dash in a time of 6.78 seconds. Ben Ericksen would have the next first place finish for the boys squad, blowing away his competitors in a time of 4:41.06 minutes in the 1600 meter race. Noah Bufalini placed third in the 600 meter run in a time of 1.29.88 minutes.
When it came around for the relays, the Tornado remained equal to the task. The Tornado boys finished third in the 3200 meter, 800 meter, and 1600 meter relays. In the 3200 meter, the quartet of Ericksen, Justin Bates, Michael Cardoza and Connor Nial ran a time of 9:22.13. Following the lead of their teammates the 800 meter team of David Berger, Eric Conant, Bufalini and Race crossed the finish line in a time of 1:38.62. To conclude the meet for the boys, the 1600 meter relay crew of Eric Conant, Bufalini, James Heath and Garrett Thornton cruised into the finish line in a time of 3:52.8.
On the girl’s side, Emily Shattuck would dominate her opponents with relative ease. Shattuck earned a first place finish in the 55 meter dash in a time of 7.80 seconds. Shattuck would also claim a fourth place finish in the 300 meter run with a time of 46.11 seconds. To conclude the notable finishes for the lady Tornado, Elizabeth Karlson competed in the shot put throw. Karlson made good on her best throw of the day in 27 feet-7 inches, in which she placed sixth.
Norwich Indoor track and field will compete next at the Section IV Championships at Cornell University on Feb. 11.
