Lady Bobcats swat the Hornets to complete perfect regular season

BAINBRIDGE – What better way to honor your three graduating seniors during their last home regular season of their high school careers? By completing an unblemished 18-0 regular season on senior night, the Bainbridge Guilford girls varsity basketball team has cemented Feb. 8, 2017 into not only their seniors' memories but the schools.
The 2016-2017 squad at B-G – coached by the renowned Bob Conway – has trampled down nearly every team on their schedule, taking them to the magical mark of 18-0, once the final buzzer blew during Wednesday nights matchup where they easily defeated Harpursville 77-14.
A 63 point win is what Bainbridge-Guilford's three senior's were a part of, (Becca Reyes, Dani Johnson, and Abbi Miller) – as the game allowed all three senior's to contribute to the onslaught of the Bobcats on the Hornets.
B-G showed no signs of wear and tear coming off an 81-55 win, over the Sidney Warriors on Feb. 7. Now playing back-to-back games, the Sidney game looked to be a mere warmup round for the Bobcats who – the very next night – saw two girls hit double-digit scoring while the team reached at least 10 points in each period.
With only an 11-4 lead after the first eight minutes of play, senior night looked to possibly have a tighter outcome than expected.
Enter phenom Abigail Selfridge of Bainbridge-Guilford. Selfridge saw the 11-4 lead and raised the mark in the second period where she attacked the rim for 14 points of her team leading 21 point game. Senior Becca Reyes tossed in two shots from beyond the arch – coupled with a Kori Thornton and Erica Selfridge three – all while Megan Palmatier slid in for two field goals of her own. Bainbridge-Guilford was on fire – amassing 30 second period points, while the once semi-close game grew to a 41-6 lead at the half.
The third period proved no different – as the lady Bobcats looked to bury the Hornets for a statement win on just how dominant they can truly be. Six athletes on the B-G team scored in the third period – as senior's Dani Johnson (3) and Reyes (1), looked to the range attack combining for 12 points in the period. B-G scored 26 points in the third – a period which saw the flailing Hornets score their highest mark of the game with six points.
Cruise control was finally put into place – B-G led 67-12 – heading into the final eight minutes. B-G would see their final senior – Abbi Miller – find the basket as the team outscored Harpursville 10-2 down to the stretch to take the dominating win at 77-14.
In the win, the Selfridge sisters combined for a solid day, with Abigail grabbing eight rebounds, and Erica tossing in five assists.
Bainbridge-Guilford (18-0 overall), will next see action in the MAC league tournament. With the top seed in the MAC tournament locked up, B-G hosted Sidney on Friday, at 7:15 p.m.
