Opportunities For Chenango, Inc. housing services announces available funding for home owners

NORWICH- Opportunities For Chenango Inc. would like to announce that there are still funds available through the NYS HOME Program and the NYS Affordable Housing Corporation to assist low to moderate income families throughout Chenango County with repairs and improvements to their homes. The program is specifically designed to improve the supply of affordable housing by addressing the health and safety needs of owner-occupied single family units.
Eligible homeowners could receive up to $20,500 in the form of a grant subsidy to address the following: remediation of non-potable water source or lack of access to clean water supply, installation and repair of septic systems, electrical upgrades, repair or replacement of a heating system, repair or replacement of a leaking or deteriorated roof, foundation repairs, plumbing repairs, repair or replace rotted steps/porches, accessibility modifications, lead hazard reduction.
The basic eligibility requirements for participation to receive assistance from the OFC for funding services are as follows: proof of ownership by recorded deed (the home must be their primary residence and they must own and occupy it on a year round basis), proof of land and school taxes that are paid current, proof of homeowners insurance, proof of mortgage payments are current (if applicable), and is based on income eligibility.
OFC’s Housing Department also has funds available for first time home-buyers. Eligible participants could receive a grant of up to $20,500 to assist with down payment and closing costs.
The OFC Housing Rehabilitation Programs also coordinates with the Weatherization Assistance Program to provide energy saving measures to the homes they work on. Historically, weatherization assistance can result in a 25-40 percent reduction of the heating and energy usage of the home. The Weatherization Assistance Program serves the elderly, disabled, families with children, and low-income in general. The program provides additional measures such as adding insulation to the attic and sidewalls, air sealing the entire home to prevent air infiltration and heat loss, furnace and duct work repairs and upgrades, water heater repairs and replacements, electric reduction measures such as installing energy efficient light bulbs and fixtures, refrigerator replacement of high energy using models, and water saving shower heads and devices. The Weatherization Assistance Program at Opportunities for Chenango, Inc. provides service to all eligible applicants whether or not they are a participant in the Home Rehab Program.
For additional information or to request an application for any of the programs listed above, please contact Opportunities for Chenango at 607-334-7114.
