CCHS announces upcoming March events
NORWICH – The Chenango County Historical Society (CCHS) and Museum are calling all county residents and beyond to come and join its festivities planned throughout the month of March.
On Saturday, Mar. 11, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. the CCHS Museum–in collaboration with the Otselic Bicentennial Committee–will be hosting the “Celebrate Otselic's Bicentennial 1817-2017” exhibit opening.
The exhibit within the museum at 45 Rexford Street in Norwich will feature: men and women who had an impact in the development of Otselic including Grace Brown and Frank Cox; the Gladding Company and other industries and businesses; the Auburn Branch of the New York and Oswego Midland Railroad and the Rainbow Trestle once located in Otselic Center; churches and organizations significant to Otselic; and the progression of education in the Town of Otselic.
Additional displays will be in the Loomis Barn, Bob Marshman Agriculture Education Center, including a hand pump and hose cart circa 1850s on loan courtesy of the South Otselic Fire Department.
CCHS is inviting all to attend and be part of this unique look at the Town of Otselic.
The following Sunday, Mar. 12, the CCHS Museum will host its sixth Maple Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. at its headquarters.
Various area maple producers, such as Cook's Maple of Sherburne, and environmental educators, including representatives from Friends of Rogers and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chenango County, will be in attendance exhibiting informative displays and items available for purchase.
The CCHS sap house's evaporator will be up-and-running at the event to demonstrate to attendees part of the historical process of maple syrup production, and trees will be tapped as part of the event as well.
Lone Spruce Alpaca will be in attendance selling products made from alpaca fleece, and local crafters and artisans will also be participating.
The CCHS reports that they have vacant free booths available for local maple reporters and crafters, and those interested should call (607) 334-9227 ext. 2 or email s.mahan@chenangohistorical.org for more information.
Prior to Mar. 12's maple event, the CCHS will be hosting a free members-only pancake breakfast as a way to thank 2017 CCHS Museum members. Those interested in learning more about the CCHS Museum's membership opportunities can use the previously listed contact information as well.
The CCHS is also reminding area citizens of their Mar. 26 Flea Market at the VFW in Norwich on East Main Street from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring nearly 20 vendors new and old.
The Flea Market event is free to the public.
