Authorities: Heroin, cocaine, marijuana, long gun recovered following pursuit, investigation
CHENANGO COUNTY – Heroin, cocaine, marijuana and a loaded gun were recovered by authorities in the early hours of Wednesday, March 8, 2017, according to authorities with the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office.
24-year-old Samuel Ackermann, Norwich, and a 17-year-old juvenile female of Plymouth were taken into custody following an hours-long pursuit by police.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 10:45 p.m., March 7, the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division along with members of the Oxford Village Police Department and Norwich City Police Department were conducting a narcotics investigation in the Village of Oxford. During said investigation, road patrol members attempted to stop a gray 2010 Chevrolet Malibu allegedly operated by Samuel J. Ackermann.
Police reported that Ackermann failed to comply and led officers on an approximate eight mile pursuit from the Village of Oxford and ended on Moon Hill Road in the Town of Plymouth.
While on Moon Hill Road, Ackermann allegedly crashed the vehicle into a tree and fled the scene with an 18-year-old Plymouth man, and a 17-year-old female.
Officers conducted a search of the area for approximately 2 and a half hours before calling off the search.
It was at approximately 3 a.m., March 8, 2017 when the Chenango County 911 Center received a call from a resident in the area reporting two people at the residence trying to get assistance from the resident.
Per a release from the Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded and located the two suspects from the earlier pursuit.
Ackermann and the female, were taken to UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the crash.
“A search warrant was executed on the vehicle and officers recovered heroin as well as a loaded long gun,” read a release.
It was reported that while continuing their investigation, members of law enforcement additionally located more than one ounce of cocaine and approximately one and a half pounds of marijuana at a separate address in the Town of Pharsalia.
The warrant was signed by Chenango County Court Judge Frank B. Revoir Jr.
Ackermann is a NY State Parolee, and was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony; criminal possession of marijuana in the second degree, a class D felony alleging possession of 16 ounces or more of marijuana; reckless endangerment; unlawful fleeing a police officer in the third degree, a class A misdemeanor; and criminal use of drug paraphernalia in the second degree, as class A misdemeanor.
The juvenile was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony; and criminal possession of marijuana in the second degree, a class D felony alleging possession of 16 ounces or more of marijuana.
She was arraigned in the Town of North Norwich Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail.
The Corrections Division with the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office was contacted Thursday morning by The Evening Sun to inquire as to if the juvenile posted bail, yet employees said they could not release that information without a name, and the name of the juvenile was not released.
Ackermann was arraigned in the Town of North Norwich Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail.
No charges have been released with regard to the third individual – the 18-year-old male – allegedly involved.
According to authorities, “more than ten bags” of heroin were recovered, and that “some bags were larger than normal.” It was said that police are continuing to look for additional bags of heroin.
No details regarding the alleged possession of the loaded long gun were released as of press time Thursday, March 9.
Authorities say the investigation is continuing and additional arrests are expected.
