Greene couple faces several charges related to alleged animal abuse
GREENE - Sheriff Ernest Cutting reported that on March 7, 2017 Martin W. Canny, 62, and Mary T. Canny, 63, both of the Town of Greene, were arrested on agriculture and markets law violations.
Martin and Mary Canny are being charged with seven counts of failure to provide proper sustenance to farm animals and dogs.
On March 6, a Chenango County Deputy was investigating the original complaint in regards to the incident, while being assisted by the Leather Stocking Veterinary Clinic, located in New Berlin.
The Veterinarian, Dr. Schneider, responded and allegedly deemed numerous animals to be malnourished, and recommended them to be removed from the property and offered assistance from the clinic.
The Town of Greene Dog Control Officer also responded to the location for the alleged poor condition of one of the dogs, which was removed that evening.
According to authorities, on the morning of March 7, Martin and Mary Canny voluntarily gave up their rights to the rest of their animals – agreeing for them to be taken by the Leather Stocking clinic.
Furthermore, during this time an Environmental Conservation Officer at the scene allegedly located untagged deer carcass on the property while investigating the original complaint.
Later the same evening members from the Leather Stocking Veterinary clinic volunteered their time to remove the remaining animals from the property – relocating the animals to their clinic for further treatment.
The above named are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
