Monday Evening Musical Club presents: Folk Music Concert

NORWICH – The Monday Evening Music Club (MEMC), now in its 107th year, will be showcasing a Folk Music Concert on Monday, April 3, at 7:30 p.m. at the United Church of Christ in Norwich, where a number of renowned artists both locally and regionally will be performing.

Admission to the concert is free, but free-will donations will be accepted at the door to benefit the MEMC’s music scholarship fund for graduating aspiring musicians.

Among the performers set to take the stage is 2017 “Best Singer/Songwriter” and “Best Folk” SAMMY award winner Lauren Mettler: a versatile multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter who incorporates guitar, banjo, ukulele, mandolin, and penny whistle in her original music.

Lauren’s brother J. Mettler – also a SAMMY award winning singer-songwriter – will be performing as well. J. Mettler has spent the past several years touring up and down the east coast with his band ‘Rabbit in the Rye.’

Jes Sheldon – lead singer of the ‘Lightkeepers,’ who were the recipient of the SAMMY Brian Bourke Award for Best New Artist – will be performing alongside Daniel Dunham, an instrumentalist singer who performs with the ‘Woodshed Prophets’: another band that has toured extensively.

Locally, Jenni Larchar and Tom Murphy are well know musicians who play “music from the great American songbook.” Larchar plays fiddle, Murphy plays keyboard, and the duo both sing.

Local guitarist and singer Joe Lombardi, who has been performing in the area for years, will also contribute to the evening’s sounds.

Additionally, up and coming guitarists and Jr. High student Nate Franklin and Ethan Guzewich will be performing several songs, including an original piece.

Jr. High School singers Jillian Ferrerese and Halie Rotundo are back by popular demand, both having performed at a number of musicals and concerts, including past MEMC concerts. Haile had a lead in the musical ‘The Last Doll’ and recently played the dragon in the Norwich Middle School’s showing of ‘Shrek.’ Haile will be accompanied by Colin Bussing, who is a very active member of the NCSD Music Department.

Retired NCSD music teacher Gail Murphy will also perform, playing harp, guitar, and singing.

The United Church of Christ is located at 11 West Main St. in Norwich.
