UV and Greene Track and Field at MAC League meet

DELHI – Both the Greene and Unadilla Valley’s boys and girls track teams put up some serious times on their way to some podium worthy finishes.
The Unadilla Valley girls saw Maggie Merlo claim wins in both the 100m and 200m races, timing 13.48 and 28.9 seconds respectively.
Kyleigh George grabbed a second place finish in the 100m hurdles in a time of 17.8 seconds to conclude the top-tier finishes on the track for the UV girls.
In field events however, Julia Oglesby recorded a win in the high jump recording a top jump of five feet. Maggie Fernette and Molly Avolio kept with the jumping theme – each recording second place finishes. Fernette had a long jump of 14’11.75 feet and Avolio recorded a 29’2.5 leap in the triple jump. UV’s 4x100m relay team placed first with a time of 53.9 seconds.
For the women from Greene, Katie Anderson placed first in the 1500m run in a time of 5:21.9 and Nicole Flohr finished first in the 400m running a time of 1:07.3. Flohr also grabbed a second place finish in the 200m in a time of 29.2 seconds. Greene’s 4x800m relay team placed first in a time of 11:32.04 and the 4x400m team placed second in a time of 4:40.3.
The boys from UV claimed a victory in the 4x100m relay in a time of 48 seconds. UV’s Ben Avolio won the 400m in a time of 55.5 seconds, while also winning the 200m in a time of 25 seconds flat. Than Garry grabbed another victory for the Storm placing first in the 400m hurdles in a time of 1:03.6. UV’s 4x800m relay squad placed second in a time of 9:37.86 and Josh Nogaret placed second in the 1600m run in a time of 5:17.62.
Greene’s Coy Austin grabbed two top finishes, one in the 100m run in a time of 11.7 seconds and the other victory in the shotput hoisting a throw of 38’ 8.75” feet. Austin also had another pair of third place finishes; one in the discus with a throw of 89’ 8 feet and one in the long jump with a leap of 18’8 feet. Nolan Scofield placed third in the 800m in a time of 2:27.9 minutes. Greene’s 4x100m relay team placed fourth in a time of 56.3 seconds.
Greene will see their next action on Saturday, April 8, when their boys and girls squads travel to Newark Valley for the Red, White, Blue & Gold Invitational. Unadilla Valley track and field will not see action until April 18, when they travel to Greene for a meet at 4:30 p.m.
