SIDNEY – Bainbridge-Guilford softball is off and running, recording their fourth win of the year against the Sidney Warriors in a 7-0 ballgame on Wednesday April 5.
B-G plated Kori Thornton in the first inning in which Megan Palmatier was credited with the RBI to put the Bobcats ahead 1-0. With Thornton’s pitching keeping the Warriors at bay, B-G tacked on another run in the third inning with Thornton on base, Megan Palmatier hit an RBI single, driving in Thornton for her second run of the game. B-G’s offense once again struck in the fourth when Ashley Matthews scored off of an Abbi Miller single.
It would be an inning later when Jill Cannistra and Megan Palmatier each scored – with Cannistra scoring on Palmatier’s double and Palmatier scoring on Bree Barber’s single.
Guided by the impeccable defensive effort by the lady Bobcats, the Warriors didn’t record a hit until the fourth inning by route of a lead-off single via Mackenzie Gravelin. Gravelin, recorded the only hit of the game for Sidney as B-G’s Kori Thornton recorded nine strikeouts over her 6 1/3 innings pitched. Bainbridge-Guilford tacked on two more insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings when Kassidy Davy and Megan Palmatier each scored.
Kori Thornton recorded two hits and scored two runs on the evening and Megan Palmatier recorded two hits, scored two runs and drove in another two runs.
“It was a pretty clean game. I was impressed with both pitchers, and I think Megan (Palmatier) had a few key hits that made the difference,” said B-G head coach Randy Palmatier. “It’s early in the year, and we have a huge game next Wednesday against Deposit.”
Bainbridge-Guilford is back in action next Wednesday April 12, when the Bobcats host Deposit at 4:30 p.m.
