BAINBRIDGE – In the first match of their new season last Wednesday, April 5, the Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats varsity tennis team hosted Hancock.
Unfortunately, luck was not in their favor, as they lost on a final score of 4-1.
In the singles portion of the match, the first matchup featured a battle of the Bailey’s. Hancock’s Bailey VanLoan triumphed over B-G’s Bailey Hotaling in straight sets at 6-4 and 6-2.
Hancock’s number two, Porter Crawsin was also victorious against Owen Lambrecht of the Bobcats, 6-2, 6-4.
In a closer pairing, Alyson Henson clinched Hancock’s third singles win of the day over Amaya Carlin, 6-4, 7-6.
The Bobcats were able to claim a team point in the doubles portion of the match, as the combination of Tanner Cliffe and Nate Oliver at second singles defeated Riley Ostrander and Makenna Loucks for the shutout at 6-0 and 6-0.
However, the Hancock pairing of Michael Argiros and Tiffany Poborsky at first doubles, closed the match out with a win to seal the Bobcat’s fate – when they downed Jared Pruskowski and Dadeon Canfield with wins of 6-4 and 7-6 (8-6).
B-G, who now stand at 0-1 overall on the new season, will try to notch their first win when they play Oxford at home on Tuesday, April 18. That game is scheduled to start at 4:15 p.m.
