ALLENTOWN, PA – A 22 year old Norwich woman recently broke three New York State Powerlifting records at the Pennsylvania State Powerlifting Championships on Saturday, March 25.
Weighing in at just 119 pounds, Kaitlin Herzog recorded a squat of 235 pounds, with an impressive bench press of 145 pounds, and a deadlift of 315 pounds to rewrite the record books.
“Going into the meet, I wasn’t expecting to set any records,” said Herzog. “I went into the meet just wanting to glorify God with my performance and qualify for Nationals.”
Herzog said that as the meet progressed, she watched girls in different weight classes start to set some records of their own.
“Just for fun, I decided to check the records in my class, and realized that I could set records if my planned attempts were successful,” said Herzog.
The rest is history.
Although she now possesses three New York State records, Herzog is hungry for even more.
“I’m currently prepping for Nationals in nine weeks,” said Herzog. “I still have the same goals; to glorify God with my performance and to come back stronger than the girl that stepped on the platform 11 weeks earlier. If any records come from that, it would just be icing on the cake.”
This event was notably an official event for the United States Power Lifting Association (USPA), where the New York State records for squat and deadlift were specifically set for the USPA, and bench press state record set for the USA Powerlifting (USAPL).
