MCGRAW – Anyone who is familiar with baseball or softball understands the difficulty in plating runs and creating offense. This game did not disappoint in the offensive category as a combined total of 47 runs were produced on the afternoon of Thursday April 13, as Otselic Valley’s varsity softball team fell to McGraw 27-20.
With the game knotted at one run a piece entering the second inning, McGraw delivered a major portion of the damage over the next four innings of play. Between the second inning and sixth innings the ladies from McGraw plated 23 of their 27 runs.
Meanwhile, the lady Vikings from OV worked quickly to get their offensive unit moving plating 12 runs over that same time-frame. It wasn’t until the game reached the sixth inning did the Otselic Valley women pull within five runs. But the game wasn’t in the cards for the Vikings.
McGraw extended their lead with three extra runs in the bottom of the sixth to push the lead to 27-19 heading into the final stanza. Otselic Valley managed to rally in one run, but fell short, ultimately losing by a 27-20 margin.
The Vikings’ Amber Meigs led the offensive effort recording a batting average of .714 on the afternoon while driving in five runs, while teammate Marin Dumian punched in three runs on two hits – one of which was a triple in the loss.
Otselic Valley (0-2) returns to the diamond when they host Madison on Thursday, April 20, at 4:30 p.m.
