Bainbridge-Guilford Baseball defeats Harpursville (3-0), Walton (3-0) and Afton (1-0)
BAINBRIDGE – The Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats Baseball team ripped off three straight games surrounding this past weekend.
On Thursday, April 20, the Bobcats hosted the Hornets of Harpursville – swatting the swarm for a 3-0 home win.
The Hornets looked on helpless as solid play early on from B-G secured the game – snagging a first inning of two runs, only to tack on the insurance third run in the second inning.
In the bottom of the first Trevor Halaquist smashed a line-drive single to left field sending home Evan Hyzer for the early run. On batter later, and B-G’s Zach Ouimet took the sacrifice ground out – a move that allowed Collin Puerile to make it home from third base.
The Bobcats would only outhit Harpursville 3-2 in the game, however, would capitalize on their hits.
Sean Jones earned the win on the mound for B-G, securing a game where he pitched the entire seven innings and allowing just two hits and no walks, while securing eight strikeouts.
In the bottom of the second inning, Puerile hit the ball into play forcing a fielders choice situation – a move that secured the second out of the inning but would allow enough time for Tom Palmatier to dart home for the third and final run of the night.

AFTON – After traveling to Walton on Friday, April 21, and defeating the Warriors in another tight 3-0 game – where Trevor Halaquist pitched a no-hitter.
B-G saw yet another road game come their way on Saturday, April 22. And not just any road game, a game with the then undefeated Afton Crimson Knights.
In a true battle, the Bobcats secured the 1-0 win over the Crimson Knights, handing Afton their first loss of the season.
“They no hit us. My guys threw a combined one-hitter. One play was the difference in the game,” said Afton head coach Trevor Beames. “It was a well played baseball game from both teams. I tip my cap to Ouimet who threw very well, but also to KJ Ives and Colin Nabinger who kept us in the game from the hill. I look forward to playing them again on Saturday.”
With a walk of Sean Jones in the top of the second inning, it was Tom Palmatier who did the dirty work for the Bobcats – sacrificing his chance to shine with a fly out to right field, allowing Jones to make it to third after tagging up.
Enter B-G’s Brent Rideout who connected with the pitch from Afton’s KJ Ives enough for a ground ball. The jolt from the hit shook things up in the Crimson Knights ranks, resulting in Rideout reaching first base on a throwing error – one of two for Afton in the game.
This error, however, was the most costly for either team, as Jones raced home for the lone score of the contest, during the confusion on the play.
For the remainder of the game there would only be one hit, as the pitchers went to work from the mound – carving up the batters on the day. Zach Ouimet of B-G would secure the no-hitter in the 1-0 win, allowing just four walks in his 107 pitches – while striking out eight batters.
Afton employed a two-headed monster in KJ Ives (first four innings, four strikeouts, two walks), and Colin Nabinger (three innings, three strikeouts, one hit, and two walks).
Next up for Bainbridge-Guilford (6-3 overall), they will play Candor Central at home on Tuesday, April 25, at 4:30 p.m.
Afton baseball (3-1 overall), will regroup after the heartbreaking loss, playing next on Monday, April 25, at 4:30 p.m., when the Oxford Blackhawks come to town.

Greene Baseball defeats Unadilla Valley 6-5 on Thursday
NEW BERLIN – The Unadilla Valley Storm baseball team have suffered through some tough-fought losses thus far into the 2017 spring season – and their game at home against the Greene Trojans proved no different.
Down 6-1 in the fifth inning, UV mounted an almost epic comeback – pulling in four runs to bring the game to a respectable 6-5 score.
However, that was it for the Storm, costly mistakes throughout the contest in their five errors in the game, would come at the worst time for the Storm. Despite Greene having a massive six errors in the win, UV was undone by their untimely play – dropping to a 0-3-1 record.
“We just seem to make too many errors in crucial times and give the other team extra chances to score runs,” said Unadilla Valley head coach Matt Osborne. “We made a great comeback in the fifth inning by scoring four runs.”
With bases loaded and just one out, UV was unable to secure another run to finish off the potential comeback that could have been.
Greene saw pitcher, Logan Kennedy stand on the mound for the entire game – securing the win en route to throwing out five strikeouts and just three walks in his 100 pitches.
UV’s Andrew Jackson would be credited with the loss for the Storm, pitching 3.1 innings and having three strikeouts and five walks. Cameron Osborne would come in in relief, tossing three strikeouts and one walk in his 1.2 innings pitched.
Payton Stirone, Jared White and Cameron Osborne would each earn one hit for UV in the loss.
“We had the bases loaded and one out and just could not get the clutch hit to score the tying or winning run,” said coach Osborne.
Greene and UV would both see three hits a piece in the contest, as Greene would have a hit a piece for Noah Kennedy, Nick Shoemaker, and Alec Frair – while Frair and Shoemaker would each drive in two runs a piece as well.
Next up for Unadilla Valley (0-3-1 overall), they will play next at home against Harpursville on Monday, April 24, at 4:30 p.m.
Greene will be on the road next, traveling to Hancock on Monday, April 24, at 4:30 p.m.

Sidney Baseball defeats Oxford 11-1 on Thursday
SIDNEY – Oxford was smoked by the Sidney Warriors on Thursday of last week dropping the road game to the Warriors at 11-1.
Oxford would surprisingly jump out to the early lead, with the first run in the game. Up 1-0, after Dylan Depew hit a single shot to left field – allowing Jon Heggie to come home – Oxford failed to mount any offense for the remainder of the game.
15 hits to just three, the Oxford bats went silent for most the game – allowing Sidney to rack up 15 total hits in the 11-1 win.
Taking the loss for Oxford was Phil Smith (four innings, three walks, no strikeouts), before Matt Roach would come in (two innings, one strikeout, and two walks).
Sidney saw Justin McMillan take the win on the mound as he pieced together a five inning game with seven strikeouts and no walks. Levi Green and Parker Boice would each pitch an inning, cleaning up the game – with Green adding one strikeout and one walk in the winning efforts.
Dylan Depew and Jon Heggie would be the lone Blackhawks who would find the ball in the game as Depew finished 2-2 and Heggie 1-3 with a run scored.
Oxford, (1-4-1 overall) will travel to Afton next, on Monday, April 24, at 4:30 p.m.
