NEW BERLIN – It has been a rough start to the 2017 season, to say the least, for the Unadilla Valley varsity softball team. The Storm fell to their fifth consecutive defeat yesterday, April 24, losing 16-0 to Harpursville.
UV had poor offense, as well as posting double-digits in the error column to blame for the loss.
The Storm started off well, and the game was scoreless after the opening frame. Then, the wheels started to come off.
Harpursville struck for three runs in the second inning, one in the third, and nine in the fifth, to jump out to a 13 run lead. From that point forward, it was plain sailing for Harpursville, as they collected the victory.
It seemed to be a case of Harpursville doing everything that the Storm could not. They finished with 16 hits, and committed no errors. In comparison, UV managed just three hits, and committed an atrocious 10 errors throughout the game, which proved to be costly.
Harpursville’s MJ Kappauf proved to be a thorn in the Storm’s side the entire game. She blasted a home run, and drove in three runs for her side in the win.
Meegan White was best in the loss for UV. She finished one-for-two at the plate in the defeat, also earning herself a walk. UV’s Tia Peck stood on the mound for the loss at home, striking out eight batters and allowing just four walks in her six innings pitched.
The Storm will certainly be hoping for a better performance, and to break into the win column, when they host Delhi. That game is scheduled for Tuesday, April 25, at 4:30 p.m.
