NEW BERLIN – After going down 4-0 after the first two innings, the Unadilla Valley varsity baseball team couldn’t manage to mount a comeback, and ultimately lost 7-3 on Monday, April 24.
The Hornets of Harpursville captured an early lead, courtesy of Ryan Kachmar’s sacrifice fly. They capitalized on that early lead in the second inning, driving in three more runs, behind the bars of Brock Weist and Greg Akrulis.
Despite scoring a run in each of the next three innings, UV came up short, and gave up two more runs to the Hornets in the sixth inning, allowing them to close out the victory.
Kachmar had a solid outing on the mound for the Hornets, as he pitched four innings, giving up two runs on two hits, and striking out nine.
Payton Stirone took the loss for the Storm. He pitched four innings, giving up five runs on four hits, while striking out one man.
Kyle Rooker was on fire at the plate for Harpursville on the day. He went two-for-three at the plate, driving in three runs, and also drew a walk. Adam Lamont was the prime offensive threat for the Storm. He went .500 on the day, with one hit and an RBI.
The Storm have a quick one-day turnaround, and have no time to sit and ponder on this loss. They will be hoping to improve when they host Delaware Academy on Tuesday, April 25.
