Tom Sutton lauded for continuous involvement in community

CHENANGO COUNTY – Commerce Chenango held its annual Membership Appreciation Luncheon on Thursday, April 6, where Norwich-resident Tom Sutton was presented with the Commitment to Community Award.

According to a release from Commerce Chenango, the award is given annually to an individual “who has shown significant commitment to our community through their leadership as well as individual contributions, and who is an active participant in committees, projects, and events that benefit others in the community.”

Sutton’s career began as a Management trainee at NBT Bank. He has continuously played an active role in the Chenango community as he’s steadily progressed to his current position as Central and Southern NY Territory Manager at NBT Bank.

“It is very humbling, and almost embarrassing, to be recognized considering the vast number of individuals that do so much in – and for – our community,” said Sutton.

Sutton’s extensive involvement in the community has included roles in: the UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital Foundation; Boards of Development Chenango; Norwich BID; Leadership Chenango Advisory; Norwich Rotary; Chase Nursing Home; Friends of the Park; and the Chenango Foundation.

Other activities of Sutton’s have included volunteering with the local Little League, Norwich Cyclones Pop Warner, AAU Basketball, and the Gus Macker tournament.

Commerce Chenango reports that Sutton also played an instrumental role in last year’s Fall Harvest market, which provided a fall-themed market in Norwich’s West Park on Saturday mornings – in addition to being an advocate for many other Chenango County business initiatives.

“We have a community that makes it easy to get involved, that’s generous with resources, and works together to push things forward. I’m thankful to call Norwich home,” said Sutton.

The luncheon – which took place at Magro’s Banquet Hall and was sponsored by Visions Federal Credit Union, Preferred Mutual Insurance Company, and Casella Waste Management – also served to provide attendees a look at the accomplishments of Commerce Chenango in 2016, and what’s in store for this year.

Commerce Chenango is a not-for-profit, community based organization dedicated to enhancing economic growth in the Chenango County area. For more information, visit www.chenangony.org.
