UV boys and girls claim victory in MAC meet

NEW BERLIN – The Unadilla Valley boys and girls track team won the MAC league meet held on Wednesday April 26, with scores of 103 for the boys and 147 for the girls.
On the boys side, UV took the track by storm winning the 4x100m relay in a time of 46.9, followed by another win in the 4x800m relay with a time of 9:27.
Josh Nagaret got in on the action for the Storm, recording a victory in the 1600m with a time of 5:20. Teammate Ben Avolio recorded two wins of his own in the 400m with a time of 56.8, and the 200m flying with a time of 24.4. The 4x400m squad swept the relays for the UV team, with a time of 3:38.7 to conclude the big wins for the Storm.
The girls team held similar results as well. Winning the 4x100 and 4x800 relay races in times of 53.5 and 11:04, got the girls on track for the afternoon.
Kyleigh George recorded a UV win in the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.9 seconds. Maggie Merlo won the 100m dash in a time of 13.1 seconds, in addition to two more wins in the 200m with a time of 27.5 as well as the long jump-leaping for a distance of 15’5.5.”
Cearah DaCostafaro won the 400m intermediate hurdles with a time of 1:17.7. Sadie Dibell won the 3000m race crossing the tape in a time of 13:07 minutes, followed by a UV 4x400m win with a time of 4:30. Kyleigh George won the triple jump. Molly Avolio rounded up the wins for her UV team with a winning throw of 27’6.5” in the shot put.
In addition to Unadilla Valley, two more Chenango County teams participated in Bainbridge-Guilford and Greene.
For the Greene boys, Brad Fassett won the 110m hurdles in a time of 20.1, with teammates Nolan Scofield and Nate Barry also recording wins on the afternoon. Scofield won the 800m race in a time of 2:28.5 and Barry won the triple jump leaping for 33’11.5”. As a team, the boys would place fourth out of four teams, scoring 49 points.
For the Trojan girls, Katie Anderson, Madison Rice, and Chloe Parks all recorded wins for their team. Anderson won the 1500m with a time of 5:25.3 minutes. Rice won the 400 meter, crossing the finish line timing 65 seconds. Parks won the 800m finishing with a time of 2:44.5. The girls would place second out of the four teams, scoring 69 points.
The boys team from B-G recorded three wins, thanks to Nick Petrutoni, Damian Knapp and Aiden Nolan. Petrutoni won the 100m dash with a time of 11.6 seconds. Knapp won the 3200m with a time of 14:01.7 minutes, while Nolan won the long jump with a jump of 17’5”. B-G placed third out of four teams, with 64 points.
The girls lady Bobcats did not record an individual victory on the day, however, they did claim a slew of second place finishes on their way to a fourth place finish as a team, scoring 36 points. Zamira Caldwell claimed second in the 100m and 200m dashes with times of 13.3 and 28.8 seconds, respectively. Rose McCray placed second in the shot put with a throw of 26’11”, and teammate Kristen Chambers recorded a mark of 27’8” in the triple jump – placing second.
Unadilla Valley track is back in action on May 1, when they travel to Deposit with a 4:30 p.m. start time.
B-G goes back to the starting blocks on April 29, when they travel to Johnson City for the Square Deal Invite, with a start time at 2 p.m.
Greene returns to the track, when they travel to Sidney on May 1, to take on the Sidney Warriors with first event beginning at 4:30 p.m.
