City appoints Dee DuFour as City Clerk/Director of Finance
NORWICH – The City of Norwich Common Council appointed Dee DuFour to a new role as City Clerk/Director of Finance at a special meeting on Tuesday, May 2, an appointment that Mayor Christine Carnrike calls ‘long overdue.’
“Dee DuFour has stepped up without hesitation to take on the responsibilities of the position when it was vacated in 2015 and 2016,” said Mayor Carnrike. “She possesses the knowledge and insight with more than two decades of first-hand experience in the Finance Office at City Hall.”
DuFour began her career in finance as a Senior Account Clerk with the City of Norwich in September of 1989.
She was promoted to Assistant to the Director of Finance in 1995, and then to Deputy City Chamberlain in 2005.
“I’ve worked for the Finance office for many years and I’m looking forward to continuing to serve the residents of the City of Norwich in my new role,” said DuFour.
DuFour has served the city for 28 years – all in the Finance Department.
The appointment is reportedly part of a larger strategic plan to reorganize the city's Finance/Clerk office.
Matthew Caldwell, Ward 1 Alderman and Chairman of the Personnel/Finance Committee said, “I congratulate Dee on being selected as the next City Clerk/Director of Finance for the City of Norwich. Dee’s appointment is the next step in our strategic plan to best position the city to serve all of our stakeholders and residents at the highest level."
Caldwell continued, “Her unwavering commitment and intimate knowledge and experience with the city’s finances deem her the obvious successor in this critical position."
Mayor Carnrike reiterated this notion, saying, “I look forward to continuing to work with Dee as this is one of the first major steps for this administration in making the necessary changes to the operation and structure of our city government.”
DuFour was sworn-in on Wednesday morning, May 3, in the Mayor’s office.
