MEMC's feature concert of the season slated for tonight

NORWICH — Monday Evening Music Club (MEMC), currently celebrating its 103rd year of operation, is inviting music lovers in the community to attend its feature concert of the season tonight, May 8, entitled "Advanced Students and Scholarship Winners Concert."

The program will commence at 7:30 p.m. and will take place at the United Church of Christ in Norwich.

While the concert is free to attend, donations are encouraged to help fund MEMC's scholarship, which is awarded to a student annually who excels in music and has plans to pursue a music-related career.

Monday's concert will feature MEMC's 2017 scholarship winners Colin Bussing of Norwich High School, and Jackson Webster of Sherburne-Earlville High School.

Bussing has plans to attend SUNY Fredonia in the fall with aspirations to become a choral director and teach at the high school level.

Webster, of North Norwich, will move on to study Music Industry, Sound Recording Technology/Business at SUNY Oneonta. In addition to performing, he hopes to operate his own recording studio.

Advanced students performing at the event will include: Aria Maholchic, Antonia Mody, Nicole Salazar, Isaac Austin, and Nick Deady of NHS; Marie Moren, Laura Tenney, and Rebecca Turner of S-E; and Kyle Baker and Andrea Dempsey of Oxford Academy.

The teachers set to represent these students are Anita Humer, Kylie Davis, Meena Conant, Mike Moren, Mary Williams, Julie Solomon, and Becky Sabin.

"Your generous donations makes possible our scholarship," states a release from MEMC.

MEMC's members have organized a reception set to follow the event.
