Sectional Tennis begins today

CHENANGO COUNTY – As the varsity tennis season continued to wind down some last week matches were scheduled in preparation for the upcoming Section IV tournament.
NORWICH – On Monday, May 7, Norwich tennis hosted Sidney – earning the win over the Warriors at 4-3, and moving to 7-4 overall.
Giving Norwich the fourth point and the win, playing second singles, was Zayne Harper,” said Norwich coach John Stewart. “We played a sectional lineup again, to give our guys the opportunity to have one more match before sectionals. Tonight was an excellent match. Sidney was a tough match as you can see from the scores.”
 
Results:
First singles: Micha Bowie of Sidney defeated Joel Fazio of Norwich at 6-4, 5-7, 10-8
Second singles: Zayne Harper of Norwich defeated Riley MacPherson of Sidney at 7-5, 6-2
Third singles: Trenton Stillman of Sidney defeated Zac Marsh of Norwich at 6-2, 6-3
Fourth singles: Anthony Morris of Sidney defeated Ayden Hager of Norwich at 6-1, 6-1
First doubles: Josiah Shaver and Matt Giglio of Norwich defeated Sean Germond and Trevor Dutton of Sidney at 6-2, 7-6(7-5)
Second doubles: Austin Benenati and Carson Maynard of Norwich defeated Lucas Tanner and Dillon Hendrickson of Sidney at 6-4, 6-4
Third doubles: Nathan Christopherson and Jahlil Jones of Norwich defeated JP Dewey and Stoney Rowe of Sidney at 6-1, 6-1
Notably, Norwich’s doubles team of Josiah Shaver and Matt Giglio are the third seed going into sectionals – while, Joel Fazio will be the fourth seed in singles.
 
GREENE – Greene finished out their 2017 regular season with a 5-0 win at home over Hancock, earning them an overall record of 1-5 on the season.

First singles: Zach Westover of Greene defeated Bailey Van Loan of Hancock at 6-3, 4-6, 6-3
Second singles: Isaac Trass of Greene defeated Porter Crawson of Hancock at 6-0, 6-1
Third singles: Kevin Gyurik of Greene defeated Michael Argiros of Hancock at 3-6, 6-4, 6-4
First doubles: Mary Borchardt and Sophia Brown of Greene defeated Trinity Crawson and Ryan Callan of Hancock at 7-6(7-1), 6-1
Second doubles: Kelly Darling and Tommy Tran of Greene defeated Zack Goernt and Kayla Rumolo of Hancock at 6-1, 6-2
 
WINDSOR – Oxford added a matchup against the Windsor Black Knights on Monday, May 8, dropping the match 3-2.
 
Results:
First singles: Zach Burpee of Windsor defeated Natalie Barrows of Oxford at 6-0, 6-0
Second singles: Alejandro Chavarria of Windsor defeated Destiny Bedell of Oxford at 6-0, 6-0
Third singles: Hunter Moran of Windsor defeated Jourdan Pinney of Oxford at 6-0, 6-0
First doubles: Jason Davis and Rece Camadine of Oxford defeated Ty Crea and Jordan Collett of Windsor at 7-5, 6-3
Second doubles: Harry Oliver and Gavin Wheatley of Oxford defeated Nate Schmidt and Reid Schmidt of Windsor at 7-5, 6-4
 
OXFORD – The Oxford Blackhawks tennis squad played their last match of the regular season at home on Tuesday, May 9, losing 5-0 to the Sidney Warriors. Oxford finishes the 2017 season with an overall record of 5-5.

First singles: Riley MacPherson of Sidney defeated Gavin Wheatley of Oxford at 6-2, 6-0
Second singles: Trenton Stillman of Sidney defeated Alyssa Hadges of Oxford at 6-0, 6-1
Third singles: Micha Bowie of Sidney defeated Natalie Barrows of Oxford at 6-0, 6-0
