Oxford Baseball defeats Richfield Springs 12-3 on Friday
OXFORD – The Oxford Blackhawk baseball team added a non-league matchup this past Friday, taking the win at 12-3 over Richfield Springs.

The difference was the pitching in the contest, despite only outhitting Richfield Springs by two, Oxford’s base runners – who were walked 16 times – simply took advantage of the game. Add in Oxford’s seven hits and just one error in the field and it was Blackhawk baseball on Friday evening.

Matt Roach added two solid innings of pitching with two strikeouts and four walks, before Nick Cirello pitched the final eight pitches of the game.

Whitney Point Baseball defeats Oxford 5-4 on Monday (senior night after)
OXFORD – Following the win on Friday, Oxford hosted the Whitney Point Golden Eagles, in a game that could have easily swayed either way.
However, a loss at home to close out the season, Whitney Point snagged the win at 5-4. Despite the loss, Oxford baseball has still qualified for the Section IV playoffs, and it is believed they will travel to Franklin on Friday, May 19, playing as the 12th seed. This is tentative, due to scheduling not being completed, as of Tuesday, May 16.
Following the game on Monday, May 15, Oxford’s dedicated parents elected to hold a senior night celebratory barbecue to honor their seven graduating seniors: Jon Heggie, Austin Crawford, Dylan Depew, Phil Smith, Connor Lawton, Noah Robb, and Corey Turner.
Oxford jumped to a solid start, ripping off back-to-back innings with runs – scoring one in the first and two in the second. That is when home plate went silent. The Blackhawks failed to string together enough of an offense to find another run until the seventh inning.
The Golden Eagles added two runs in the third, with the tying third run coming in the fourth inning. Whitney Point continued to put the pressure on with the lead-run coming in the sixth and the seventh inning adding the decisive cushion.
Leading Oxford at the plate in the loss was senior Jon Heggie 2-4 with three runs, senior Dylan Depew 2-3, senior Austin Crawford 1-3, and Nick Cirello 1-3.
Taking the loss for the Blackhawks was Dylan Depew – four innings, five strikeouts and one walk – before Jon Heggie came in for relief for the final three innings – three strikeouts and four walks.
Whitney Point’s pitchers – Evan Wade (W) and Zach Kelsey – combined for 13 strikeouts and just three walks in the seven-inning game.
Prior to the finalization of the Section IV Class C playoff schedule, Oxford (5-9-1 overall) is believed to be the 12th seed heading into playoffs. Oxford will tentatively play Franklin on the road on Friday, May 19, at 4:30 p.m.
