Three riders find the podium, Chenango Bullthistles prepare for NY State Championship

LIBERTY – Team Chenango Composite, ‘The Bullthistles’ high school and middle school riders Mountain Bikers from all around Chenango County – managed a great race number four, when they traveled to Walnut Mountain on Sunday, May 28.
The Bullthistles saw three mountain bikers find the podium following their races this past weekend.
finishing with three riders ending up on the podium.
In the Middle School boys races, Blake Bennett, of Norwich was the lone 6th grade racer for the team, finishing in 21st place. First time racer, 7th grader Trent Rapp, of Greene and first time racer, 7th grader Daniel Scholl of Sherburne-Earlville took fourth and sixth place, respectively.
In the Freshman boys race category; Nick Loscavio, of Norwich placed 7th – a mark worth 448 points – Ethen Eldred, of Sherburne-Earlville placed 10th after a hard crash on lap number one – a mark worth 427 points, Alex Trifunovic, of Greene placed 18th, Jared Likens, of Greene placed 22nd. First time racer, Houston Edwards, of Norwich, met his goal of finishing his first mountain biking race, where he slid into 37th place.
Stanton Baker, of Norwich managed to place 11th in the Sophomore boys race category, earning the team 420 points.
For the girls, Andrea Trifunovic, of Greene won her third race in a row in the middle school race category, and retains her 6th Grade Points Leader status for the NY league.
Anika Christensen, of Gilbertsville-Mt. Upton placed 5th in the girls 7th grade race, while Kayleigh Currie, of Sherburne-Earlville completed one of her two laps with a minor crash pulling her from the race. Co-coach Rob Baker assured there was no major injury sustained.
Team Chenango finished with a B-B-B-G score of 448-427-420-0 total of 1295 points this past weekend. The zero points scored in the girl group is a result of only high school level female racers are counted in the team points.
Following this past weekend, The Bullthistles move from 11th to 13th place in the overall New York State standings.
With one final race for the season, The Bullthistles will be heading to the NICA NY Championship, to be held at John Boyd Thacher State Park, in Voorheesville, New York on Sunday, June 4.
