Edmeston’s monster fourth inning leads to win over Blackhawks
EDMESTON – In an Otsenango PONY league opener on Tuesday June 13, the Edmeston Panthers cruised to an 11-1 win over the Oxford Blackhawks in Division A action.
With the game scoreless over the first two frames, the Blackhawks Keegan Franklin connected on pitch from the Panther’s Nathan Jennings, receiving the RBI in the process when Ethan Fleury scored as Oxford took a 1-0 lead. It was a tale of two halves as the three innings of play was defined by the dominate pitching from both teams, however, that all changed as the game entered the fourth inning.
Entering the bottom of the inning, Edmeston rallied for 10 runs in the inning, recording five hits and five walks in the frame as 15 different Panthers stepped up to the plate. Josh Martin led the offensive unit for Edmeston as he went 2 for 3 with a double, triple and three RBIs, Panther teammate Garrett Lum produced an equally impressive performance as he recorded two hits with a double and three runs scored.
Blackhawk Pitcher Nick Cirello recorded the loss for Oxford (0-1) while Josh Martin recorded the win for the Edmeston (1-0).
Edmeston hosts Greene on Thursday June 15, while Oxford is off until Tuesday, June 19, when the Blackhawks travel to Greene.

UV suffers setback from Sherburne
NEW BERLIN – In Division C Otsenango PONY league action, it was the Sherburne Marauders that prevailed over the hosting UV Storm 14-6. Despite Unadilla Valley taking an early lead after the first inning of play by a score of 2-1, the Marauder team fought back scoring nine runs over the next three innings to ensure the Sherburne lead would remain intact.
By the time the Storm kept the hot hitting Sherburne squad from scoring in the ballgame, the deficit was already 10-6. In the sixth and seventh innings of play, Sherburne sandwiched a combined four runs in their offensive effort, while their defense blanked host Unadilla Valley over that same time period.
The Unadilla Valley Storm offense recorded eight hits along with nine walks, but were limited when producing runs due to their 11 team strikeouts. In addition to their offensive woes, the Sherburne offense put pressure on the Storm defense as UV committed seven total errors in the contest.
As for the Sherburne Marauders, they produced five hits, walked a total of 10 times while committing two errors on defense in the ballgame.
Sherburne returns to the diamond on Thursday June 15 when the Marauders host Milford. Meanwhile, UV is back in action on Thursday, June 15, when the Storm travels to Schenevus.
