CHENANGO COUNTY – The Chenango County Board of Supervisors applauded students who participated in the 2017 Traffic & Safety Board Poster Contest at its meeting on Monday, June 12 where the contest's winners were announced and awarded.

'Distracted Driving' was the theme for participating students whose task was to create a poster that promotes awareness to the dangers of complacent driving.

Fourth grader Abby Denz of Oxford Academy and Central School, eighth grader Alexis Brown of Bainbridge-Guilford Central School, and eleventh grader Karissa Prindle of Norwich High School were each selected as the contest's winners and subsequently were awarded a certificate and $100 for their creativity in crafting their original posters aimed at promoting traffic safety.

Ninth grader Megan Harris of Unadilla Valley Central School, eleventh grader Joel Fazio of Norwich High School, and eleventh grader Rachel Tefft of Norwich High School were each recognized as runners-up in the contest that drew 58 different entries from 5 school districts across the county.

The Chenango County Traffic & Safety Board says deciding a winner was a tough choice as participating students exhibited a high level of creativity and talent in their works.

The board is proposing that a 2018 calendar be crafted featuring all the submitted posters from the contest.

It's reported that the entries have been copied and distributed to schools throughout the county for display. They are also on display at the Chenango County Department of Motor Vehicles.
