Unadilla Valley PONY League triumphs in back-and-forth battle

NEW BERLIN – In what was an enthralling contest from start to finish, the Unadilla Valley PONY League team used a late two-run surge in the final inning to clinch a 10-8 victory against Milford PONY League.
Two singles, a hit by pitch, and a steal of home plate by Garrett Proskine secured the two-run win for UV.
Milford took an early 3-1 lead after the opening inning, but the UV bats came alive in the third inning, erupting for four runs. Milford fired right back in the bottom frame, scoring three runs of their own to keep a hold of the lead by the slimmest of margins.
The teams continued to trade runs back and forth until UV dealt the decisive blow in the seventh inning.
In the victory, UV was extremely efficient on the base paths, stealing 11 bases. They also finished with 10 hits in the win.
Best on the day for UV were Gavin Bonczkowski, who went two-for-three at the plate, driving in three RBI, scoring three runs and drawing a walk; and Mark Home. Home went one-for-three at the dish, but tacked on an amazing tally of four stolen bases in his sides victory.
UV will be hoping that they can build on this spectacular performance and continue their winning ways when they travel to play Sherburne PONY League this Friday, June 23. First pitch in that matchup is scheduled for 6 p.m.
