Carpenter receives 16 scholarships at UVCS graduation ceremony
NEW BERLIN – Recent Unadilla Valley-graduate Megan Carpenter saw her hard work pay off at the Unadilla Valley Central School graduation ceremony on Saturday, June 24, where she was formally recognized as recipient of 16 different scholarship awards.
Carpenter – who is now gearing-up to major in Early Childhood Education with a minor in Photography at SUNY Oneonta – attributes the accolades to her extensive involvement in school and community over her time at UVCSD.
"It was a lot of hard work and dedication to not only my school, but to my community," said Carpenter. "Getting involved in school clubs, taking on leadership roles, and volunteering my time at community service events I think was a big factor in why I received these awards.
"To be recognized with this amount of awards from teachers, counselors, and the community––it really makes me feel like my hard work 'paid' off," joked Carpenter in reference to the roughly $15,000 in scholarships she received at graduation that will now go towards her schooling at SUNY Oneonta.
Carpenter wished to thank those who were there for her throughout her journey that helped her achieve all she has today.
"I would like to thank my father, Brad Carpenter, and my mother, Tammy Carpenter, as well as all my friends and family for supporting me throughout my journey as I prepare to embark on a brand new one," said Carpenter.
