Nido named to All-Star Futures game
BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton Rumble Ponies catcher Tomas Nido will play for the World Team at the 2017 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on Sunday, July 9, at Marlins Park in Miami. Nido is the tenth Binghamton player to be included in the game in the last seven years.
The Futures Game, entering his 19th year in existence, puts the top prospects in the game on the national stage during Major League Baseball’s All-Star Week festivities.
Nido, a native of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, was just named an Eastern League Mid-Season All-Star on Wednesday, solidifying his third straight All-Star nomination. Nido will play in the Futures Game for the first time in his career. The Rumble Ponies catcher was an All-Star with Savannah (Low-A) in 2015 and St. Lucie (High-A) in 2016. Nido has hit .283 since May 4. His five home runs are two shy of a career high.
Former B-Met shortstop Amed Rosario was also named to the World Team.
Binghamton has had at least one representative at the Future Games in each of the last seven seasons: Dominic Smith (2016), Michael Conforto & Brandon Nimmo (2015), Kevin Plawecki (2014), Noah Syndergaard & Rafael Montero (2013), Zack Wheeler & Wilmer Flores (2012), and Matt Harvey (2011).
Nido and the Rumble Ponies (40-33) conclude their only regular season visit to Hartford on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show can be heard starting at 6:50 p.m. on NewsRadio 1290 AM WNBF and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies channel on TuneIn.
