Trio held on $20k bail for meth charges
NORWICH–According to the New York State Police, on July 17, at approximately 9:23 p.m., in the Town of Norwich, three individuals were arrested and charged with unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine third degree, a class D felony; and petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor.
The three arrested and charged were:
•Steven E. Sapinsky, 41, of New Berlin
•Sabrina J. Gray, 26, of New Berlin
•James W. Bailey, 30, of West Edmeston
These arrests occurred after troopers responded to a report of three suspects allegedly shoplifting from the a business store on State Route 12, in the Town of Norwich, and then driving away.
After checking the area, the suspected vehicle was stopped as it was observed pulling into the nearby WalMart parking lot.
An investigation determined that Sapinsky, Gray, and Bailey had stolen instant ice packs that were said to have been located in their vehicle. A further search of the vehicle found Sudafed, starting fluid, ice packs, plastic soda bottles, and a digital pocket scale. These items were intended on being used together to unlawfully manufacture, prepare or produce methamphetamine, according to police.
Sapinsky, Gray, and Bailey were arraigned in the town of Afton Court and were remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $50,000 property bond.
It should be noted that all crimes described are allegations. Suspects named are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
