NBT Bank announces scholarships at student career day event

NORWICH – NBT Bank Chief Financial Officer Michael J. Chewens presented scholarships totaling $10,000 to six participants in the bank’s Summer Employment Program at its annual Student Career Day held Wednesday, July 19, at the Northeast Classic Car Museum in Norwich.

Eligibility for the scholarship awards is based on several factors, including job performance and the completion of at least one year of summer employment with NBT Bank. Recipients this year were: John Graziano, who was awarded $2,500; and Katelyn Cook, Morgan Chapman, Torri Halaquist, Taylor Theleman and Jennifer Burke, who were each awarded $1,500.

“I am honored to present these students with a scholarship to help them continue their education,” said Chewens. “Our Summer Employment Program is an example of NBT Bank’s continued investment in the youth in our community. College students participating in the program develop skills that will prepare them for their future while learning about the many different employment opportunities available here at NBT Bank.”

NBT Bank’s Summer Employment Program was started in 2005. The 85 students from throughout the bank’s footprint who are participating in the program this summer range from recent high school graduates to those working on post-graduate degrees.

NBT Bank Chief Human Resources and Ethics Officer Catherine Scarlett said, “We are very proud of our Summer Employment Program. The program benefits both the students and the bank. Participants gain experience working in a corporate environment and we benefit from the energy and fresh outlook they bring to their roles throughout company.”
