Flower Show 2017: The results are in!

CHENANGO COUNTY – For the 2017 Flower Show at the Chenango County Fair, the Garden Clubs of Chenango County invited local flower connoisseurs to submit arrangements based on the theme “Chenango County at Play.”

Furthermore, the county garden clubs presented vignettes with the theme of “Camping with Friends.”

A total of 193 horticulture exhibits and 27 designs were submitted and are on display through August 13 at the Flower Show in the exhibition hall at the county fairgrounds.

The results of the New York State Federated Garden Clubs' judging are listed as follows:

Kris Campbell was awarded an annuals award of merit for her cleome piece “Rose Queen.”

Marilyn Carley was awarded a perennials award of merit for her coneflower piece “Raspberry Truffle.” Carley also took first in the show's design class for her piece, “Music in Our Parks.”

Jeanne Cline-Hosta was awarded a decorative foliage award of merit for her piece “June.”

Rohimah Sarpin was awarded a grower's choice award for her succulent dish garden, as well as an additional grower's choice award for her echeveria piece, “Mira.”

Meghan Funk was awarded a grower's choice award for her phalenopsis orchid arrangement.

Betsy Campbell's Colorado blue spruce earned her an arboreal award.

May Lou Monahan's hydrangea “Pink Splendor” also earned the arboreal award.

The award of horticulture excellence was given to Betsy Campbell based on her highbush cranberry.

Mariah Lathrop earned the youth award with her sunflower arrangement titled, “Strawberry Blond.”

The award of excellence and designer's choice were awarded to Jane Clement for her piece, “Rev Up Your Engines.”

Pat Burke's “A Card Party” and “Fun in the Snow” earned the novice award.

Jessica Tefft's fairy houses earned the educational award.

Other noteworthy pieces include Mary Musson's “Let's Play Ball” and Barabara Zeller's “Exploring Our Statelands.”

All of these exhibits, arrangements, and pieces can be viewed and appreciated in the county fairgrounds' exhibition hall until Sunday, August 13.
