Afton lauded for best tasting water
AFTON – The Village of Afton has bragging rights to some of the best tasting water in Chenango County and an opportunity to elevate that reputation at a statewide level.
On Monday, the Chenango County Environmental Health Department presented the village with its coveted Blue Cup Award, an annual honor bestowed to the local municipality with the best tasting water.
Water was collected from common source sights around each village in Chenango County and the City of Norwich. Of the 11 municipal water systems in the county, a taste survey of more than 100 people found that Afton comes out on top.
“The Village of Afton works very diligently to provide great water, and they’re always upgrading their system,” said Chenango Environmental Health Services Director Isaiah Sutton.
Afton will now go toe-to-toe with municipalities from other counties during a regional competition in Cortland. Top finishers in the regional contest will have the chance to compete at the New York State Fair later this month.
