Brother Sun returns to 6 On The Square
OXFORD – The talented trio Brother Sun returns to 6 On The Square on Thursday, August 24 at 7:30 pm. The three rich voices of Greg Greenway, Joe Jencks, and Pat Wictor weave a magical tapestry of harmony that is brilliantly fresh. We are pleased to be included in their fall roster of final shows before the trio pursues individual projects.
Fusing folk, Americana, blues, pop, jazz, and rock, Brother Sun is an explosion of musical diversity and harmony, in the finest of male singing traditions. The harmonies sung by Greg, Joe, and Pat are laid on a well-crafted foundation of guitar, slide guitar, piano, ukulele, and bouzouki. Their music appeals to a broad range of listeners, including those of contemporary and traditional music.
The trio’s harmonies, as much as their lyrics, tell what they are about: warm as a campfire, stirring as a gospel church, rousing as a call to arms. With each new album, Brother Sun keep reaching farther, seamlessly going from uplifting folk-gospel to rock and blues, and beautiful introspective songs.
Brother Sun’s latest recording, Weights and Wings, is a welcome visit from three friends who come bearing comfort, hope, and inspiration in the form of powerful new songs and their trademark exquisite harmony. This new recording puts the emphasis on “harmony” through both their artistic achievement and sharing themes that remind us that we need to find an accordance in these troubled times.
Weights and Wings not only includes an a capella “Mary Don’t You Weep and Moan”, you are hooked by their harmonic massage. The interweaving of styles, the intricate arrangements and the poetic lyrics create an amazing recording. Brother Sun does it all.
