Three local kids park it in victory lane at Tri-County track

TRIANGLE – The Welch and York families from New Berlin decided to take on a new adventure this summer. The entire family, including grandparents, ended up at the Tri- County Microd Club racing track in Triangle, NY on Saturday nights.
This 1/10 mile clay dirt oval track located in the rolling hills surrounding Triangle, New York, designed for Micro-Hot Rods (Microds) for children ages 5-17.
The season rounded up at the track with the final race known as the ‘Championship Race.’ Racing his way to victory lane in the Junior Novice Class was Zack Welch for the second straight year. Novice class racer Preston York stepped on the podium for a second-place finish. Kadence York took home first in Victory Lane for the MR-1 Class.
“This was a new adventure for the kids, never being at this track yet they still did great,” said Kelly York, mother and aunt of the young racers.
Despite all the rain this past Saturday, which resulted in a late night, both families awoke early Sunday morning, August 20, and jumped on the road for Champion Speedway in Owego, NY. The family ended up with a complete repeat from the night prior, as Zack placed first in the Jr. Novice division, Preston took second in the Novice group – despite his broken throttle cable bracket – and Kadence again brought home first-place in the MR-1 class.
The families look to take part in a few more races down at Champion Speedway in order to end the season. These three karts will also be on display at Afton Speedway this Friday night, August 25.
