Authorities: Man committed assault in July with large piece of wood

EDMESTON – The Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested a Town of Edmeston man on an active arrest warrant on Tuesday for assault in the first degree.

Sheriff Ernest R. Cutting Jr. reported that Daniel L. Taylor, 33, of Edmeston, was arrested Tuesday following an investigation into an assault that occurred on July 27 in the Village of Oxford.

Following the investigation, the Sheriff's Office found that Taylor allegedly struck a 29-year-old Norwich man in the head several times with a large piece of wood.

Taylor was arraigned in the Town of Guilford Court and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000 cash bail.

He is set to reappear in the Village of Oxford Court at a forthcoming time to answer his charge.

The Sheriff's Office was assisted in this investigation by the Village of Oxford Police Department.

Taylor is presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
