Norwich falls in first match of the season

NORWICH – Despite having four of their top five finishers post scores in the 40’s, Norwich lost their first match of the season to Warriors of Chenango Valley, on August 24.
The two teams battled it out on the front nine holes at Canasawacta Country club, the home course of the Purple Tornado. These first nine total a par score of 36. Norwich’s Alex Gage posted a strong score that was just eight strokes over par.
The overall low score of the day was recorded by Chenango Valley’s Webb Botting with a 42. The Warriors (1-1) had their top five golfers shoot under 45.
“Tough first match,” said Norwich head coach David Branham. Gage led the Purple Tornado having the lowest score with a 44 as Kai Scheer followed him with a 47. A.J. Little and Griffin Clipston both shot a 48 and Connor Nail rounded out Norwich’s top five with a 54.
Next on the schedule for Norwich (0-1) is the DiNunzio Golf Tournament. The event will be held at Enjoie Golf Course on Monday, August 28 and will kickoff at 9 a.m.
Afton-Harpursville hands UV Storm second loss
Unadilla Valley 266, Afton-Harpursville 231
HARPURSVILLE – Afton-Harpursville (2-0) played well on it’s home course as they snatched the win from Unadilla Valley (0-2), playing on August 24.
Andrew Jackson of the Storm shot just six strokes over par on the back nine of Belden Hills, a par 34. Jackson’s 40 was not enough to hold off his match-up of Logan Culver, who recorded a 39.
Unadilla Valley’s other top four golfers were Brandon Kneale, who’s scorecard read a 49 for his nine holes played. Drew Emrich posted a score of 53 and Jacob Figger and Anthony Weller both finished with a 66.
The Storm will be looking to claim their first win on Monday, August 28 at Red Pines in Edmeston. Action will begin at 9 a.m.
Oxford drops second match of season to Sidney
Oxford 277, Sidney 259
SIDNEY – For the second match in a row, Oxford’s Jason Davis recorded in the 40’s but it wasn’t enough as Sidney would ultimately take the victory. Davis posted a team low 45 on the day.
“We played much better than we did against B-G,” said Blackhawks head coach Lance Throne, referencing this past Wednesday’s match against Bainbridge-Guildford.
The Blackhawks scorecard was led by Davis and his 45. Teammates Garrett Depew and Jacob Marrone respectfully recorded 50’s, Zach Ford landed a top-five spot with a 61 and Dylan Conklin finished for Oxford with a 71. The overall lowest score for the contest was scored by Sidney’s Dominic Hartwell with a 44.
Oxford (0-2 overall) will be in search of their first win of the season on Monday, August 28 as they take on Deposit-Hancock. Tee-time is scheduled for 10 a.m.
