DOT slates bridge replacement meeting in Smithville
SMITHVILLE – The New York State DOT has set a public meeting to discuss plans to replace a bridge over Long Pond Brook in the Town of Smithville.
The meeting’s slated for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Smithville Community Center, 5285 State Route 41 in the Town of Smithville. A former presentation will start at 7 p.m.
The bridge was built in 1936 and carries State Route 41 over Long Pond Brook. Inspectors say the bridge is currently safe for continued travel and is regularly inspected.
Tuesday’s meeting is to share information with the public regarding the project and its potential effects, including temporary impacts during construction.
The project proposes to replace the bridge on its existing alignment.
The presentation will provide details of why the project’s needed, possible alternatives, cost and current schedule. A question and answer period will follow.
Department representatives will be available after the meeting to answer questions about the project.
The proposed work zone traffic control is staged construction, where traffic would be maintained on the bridge using temporary traffic signals.
Construction is currently scheduled to begin in the spring of 2019.
