Mid-York Concert Band to begin third season; welcomes interested musicians

NORWICH – The Mid-York Concert Band (MYCB) under the direction of Mark D. Sands will begin its third full season on September 5, 2017. Sands said that the goal of the band is to offer a quality ensemble for area band instrumentalists to perform with.

"There are many musicians who perform in any number of the summer bands in our area and we’d love to have them join us. It is the only ensemble in our immediate area that rehearses and performs from the fall through spring months," said Mark Sands.

At present the MYCB membership is 45.

They are looking to grow and welcome all interested wind and percussion musicians to join this year. There is a definite need for oboes, clarinets, bass clarinet, trumpets, French horns, baritone horns and trombones. Sands says that he hopes area musicians will take the opportunity to check MYCB out and join.

The band is open to all community members (at least high school) with a medium advanced capability (NYSSMA level 4) and above. Although the band rehearses and performs in Norwich, many members live in other outlying communities up to an hour away.

The Mid-York Concert Band rehearses every other Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. in the Norwich Middle School band room.

The first rehearsal of the new season will take place on Tuesday September 5, 2017. This years’ Holiday concert will take place on December 12, 2017. Anyone wishing additional information should contact Mark Sands at 334-4307 or email midyorkcb@gmail.com.
